What to Expect
Starting counselling is a significant step, and it's natural to wonder what the process will be like.
This page gives you a sense of what to expect when working with me, helping you feel more comfortable and informed
as you begin.
Getting started
I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation — a relaxed, no-pressure call where you can share what’s bringing you to counselling and ask any questions you might have.
It’s also a chance for me to share how I work, explain how I may be able to help, and outline what you can expect from the counselling process, including the therapeutic agreement and confidentiality.
If it feels like the right fit for you, we can go ahead and book your first session. If not, there’s absolutely no obligation to continue.
My approach
Everyone comes to therapy for their own reasons. Some seek short-term support with a specific issue, while others want space to explore things more deeply over time. There’s no right or wrong way to begin.
I work from a psychodynamic perspective, which means we may look at how your early experiences and relationships shape the way you feel, think, and relate in the present. Gaining insight into these patterns can bring clarity, relief, and a deeper understanding of yourself.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. You're welcome to bring whatever’s on your mind — therapy is your space.
I support clients with a wide range of experiences, including:
Anxiety and low mood
Feeling stuck or overwhelmed
Life transitions or loss
Low self-esteem or self-worth
Relationship or family difficulties
Work-related stress
Attachment and trust issues
I also work with people living with the impact of trauma, navigating life-changing diagnoses or health challenges, or exploring questions around identity and sexuality.
Whether you're going through something difficult or simply curious to understand yourself more, therapy can offer a space to pause, reflect, and grow — at your own pace.
Who I work with
I work with adults (18+) from all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. This includes people of any ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. I offer sessions online working with clients across the UK, and I also have limited in-person spaces available - please reach out for more information.
